下面幾個句子是學生可能會出現的答案，你覺得哪個是正確的呢？

3. There has a snake in the toilet!
4. There have a snake in the toilet!
答案揭曉：第一個！答對了嗎？那你知道為什麼答案是 ☝ 嗎？
想要表達「現在哪裡有某人、事、物」時，英文是用 There is 或 There are 開頭，至於要用 is 或 are，則取決於後面加的人事物。
There is 後面是加單數或不可數的人、事、物，例如：
There is a dog in the corner.
角落裡有一隻狗。
There is some water in the cup.
杯子裡有些水。
而 There are 後面是加複數的人、事、物，例如：
There are some books on the desk.
桌上有些書。
剛剛是說馬桶裡有 a snake，所以就是用 There is 囉。那麼，假如你後來定睛一看，才發現自己眼花，馬桶裡其實有兩條 🐍 🐍！又要怎麼用英文說呢？沒錯，答案就是：
There is a snake in the toilet 😨 !
There are two snakes in the toilet 😵 !
接下來，我們主要會學到 There is 和 There are 的常見誤解、常用的時態變化、否定句型、疑問句型，以及進階的變化，很豐富又很實用喔，快繼續往下看看！
There is、There are 的常見誤解
There is、There are 這個句型其實是變化後的樣子，還原的話應該是 There be。學生對於這個句型有兩個極為常見的誤會，分別是：
1. 🆖 以為 There be 當中的 There 是「那裡」
來來來，注意囉！There be 裡面雖然有 there 這個字，但是跟「那裡」 是完全沒有關係滴！這是因為在英文裡，有些單字一旦加上別的字，意思就會不一樣了，比方說，put 是「放」的意思，但如果加上 up 和 with，put up with 就變成「忍受」這個截然不同的意思。同樣的道理，there be 本身代表「有」，也跟「那裡」完全沒有關係。
2. 🆖 誤寫成 There has、There have
正因為很多學生都以為 there be 的 there 是「那裡」，所以都會把中文的翻譯記成「那裡有」，但他們對於英文原本的長相又沒真的記清楚，就會整個亂掉，導致寫出 There has a problem.❌ 或 There have some problems.❌ 這種根本不存在的用法（搖手指）。
💁 Btw小補充：不過，如果在後面加上 been，變成 There has been a problem 或 There have been some problems，就是正確的了！這是來自於現在完成式的時態變化，下面會再解釋。
There be 的常見時態變化
There be 當中的 be 會跟著時態做變化，這樣人家才知道是什麼時候「有」。想表示「現在有」，就是用前面練習過的現在簡單式 There is、There are。那其他常見的時態呢？
🔎 想表示「之前有」，就用過去簡單式：There was、There were。
There was a fat, gross cockroach in the cat’s mouth!
那隻貓的嘴巴裡本來有一隻又肥又噁的小強 💢！
🔎 想表示「之後會有」，就用未來簡單式：There will be。這邊因為有助動詞 will，後面一律用原形 be 即可。
There will be another convenience store around the corner.
轉角處之後會再多一間便利商店。
🔎 想表示「曾經有過」，就用現在完成式：There has been、There have been。
There has been a big fire in the building.
那棟建築發生過嚴重的火災。There have been several earthquakes since last Monday.
從上周一到現在有好幾次的地震。
There be 的否定句型
表達否定時，有兩種寫法，第一個可以在 be 動詞和後面的名詞中間加上 not any，第二個是在名詞前面加上 no。至於 be 動詞該變成哪個，一樣取決於時態，還有後面的名詞是單數或複數。
比方說，如果你想表達冰箱裡沒有食物：
There is not any food in the fridge.
There is no food in the fridge.
或者，如果你想表達之前辦公室裡沒有人在：
There were not any people in the office.
There were no people in the office.
There be 的疑問句型
如果你是想表達疑問，變化就更簡單了，只需把 be 動詞或 will 移到句首即可，來看下面的例句示範。
Was there (any) money in the wallet?
皮夾裡之前有錢嗎 💵？Were there (any) people in the parking lot?
停車場之前有什麼人嗎？Is there (any) water in the bottle?
瓶子裡現在有水嗎？Are there (any) good restaurants near here?
這附近有什麼好吃的餐廳嗎？Will there be a desk in the room?
之後房裡會有桌子嗎？Will there be some paintings on the wall?
牆上之後會有一些畫嗎？
在回答時，be 動詞的選擇都跟著前面的問句就好囉，以下來看不同時態分別在肯定跟否定時的示範答案。
肯定的回答：
Yes, there is / there are.
Yes, there was / there were.
Yes, there will be.
Yes, there has been / there have been.
否定的回答：
No, there isn’t / there aren’t.
No, there wasn’t / there weren’t.
No, there won’t be.
No, there hasn’t been / there haven’t been.

There be 的進階變化句型
別擔心，這邊介紹的幾個句型雖然算是進階，但其實不難，而且也很實用 😎。如果用法上暫時還不是那麼熟也沒關係，重點是下次聽到人家這樣用，至少你能懂對方想表達什麼。
這類句型就是在 there 跟 be 的中間插入 must（一定）、should（應該）、could（可能）等字，因為這三個字都是助動詞，所以後面一律用原形 be 即可，來看例句的示範。
▶ There must be：「一定有」，表示推測。
There must be a solution to the problem. We just need more time.
一定有辦法可以解決這個問題的，我們只是需要更多時間。There must be something wrong with my laptop battery. Could you check it?
我的筆電電池 🔋一定是出了問題。你可以檢查看看嗎？There must be some misunderstanding between us.
我們之間一定是有什麼誤會。
▶ There should be：「應該有」，一樣是表示推測。
There should be a knife or scissors in the drawer.
抽屜裡應該有小刀或剪刀。Are you hungry? There should be some food in the fridge.
你餓了嗎？冰箱裡應該有吃的。The technician just fixed my smartphone. There should be no problem now.
技師剛修理了我的手機 📱。現在應該沒有問題了。
▶ There could be：「可能有」，表示可能性。
If you don’t fix the problem, there could be some trouble.
如果你不解決那個問題，可能會有一些麻煩。There could be a problem if you don’t give me the report on time.
如果你沒有準時把報告給我，可能會有問題。There could be more coronavirus deaths in America in the near future.
近期內美洲可能會有更多人因為新冠肺炎喪命 😢。
小補充：There be 列舉時的特殊情況
前面提過，there be 要用 is 或 are 是取決於後面的名詞是單數或複數。不過，如果今天後面接的名詞都是單數，但種類超過一種，那怎麼辦呢？比方說，我要表達桌上有一顆蘋果和一顆橘子，你會選擇下面哪一句的說法呢？
There is an apple and an orange on the table.
There are an apple and an orange on the table.
這個問題其實在英語世界並沒有絕對的定論，支持這兩種說法的母語者各有自己的論點。但是，我們可以確定的是，在這個例子當中，母語者是比較常使用 is 的，特別是在口語和非正式的場合，有些母語者會覺得後面是 a/an 的話，前面用 there are 會怪怪的。
