一、so that 的用法

為了要買那間房子，他賣掉了車。They work hard so (that) they can have better sales results.

上面的示範是 so that 用在肯定的情況，so that 也可以用在否定，如：
He bought his wife a necklace in order that she would not stay angry.
為了讓老婆別再繼續生氣，他買了項鍊送她。。They called the police so (that) the thief could not get away.
為了不讓小偷逍遙法外，他們報了警。
小補充：咦，so that 省略 that 後只剩下 so，那跟表示結果的 so，不是會長得很像嗎？🤔 是的，沒錯，但不用擔心搞混，因為從 so 後面句子的意思來判斷即可。試比較：
He sold his car so he could buy the apartment.
為了要買那間房子，他賣掉了車。▶️ 此時 so 表示目的，搭配情態助動詞 could。
He sold his car(,) so he goes to work by bus.
他賣掉了車，所以現在是搭公車上班。▶️ 此時 so 表示結果，前面經常會加逗號。
二、in order that 的用法
雖然 in order that 的意思就跟 so that 一樣，但因為較為正式，出場率就不如 so that 那麼高。也因為它比較正式，所以 that 是不會省略的，來看例句：
He works two jobs in order that his wife can be a full-time mother.
他做兩份工作，好讓他太太當全職媽媽。The parents slowed down in order that their kid could catch up.
那對父母慢了下來，好讓孩子趕上。I left home early in order that I would not be late for the job interview.
為了面試不要遲到，我早點出門。She is talking quietly in order that she will not wake up the baby.
她低聲說話是為了不要吵醒小貝比。
對了，in order that 的例句，其實也都能改用 in order to 來表達，例如：
We got up early in order that we could arrive on time.
= We got up early in order to arrive on time.
為了準時抵達，我們早點起床。▶️ in order to 後面不需要用子句了，是直接加原形動詞，
He works two jobs in order that his wife can be a full-time mother.
= He works two jobs in order for his wife to be a full-time mother.
他做兩份工作，好讓他太太當全職媽媽。▶️ 如果是為了讓別人做某事，會改成「 for＋別人」，固定放 in order 和 to 中間。
She is talking quietly in order that she will not wake up the baby.
= She is talking quietly in order not to wake up the baby.
她低聲說話是為了不要吵醒小貝比。▶️ 如果是為了讓某人不做某事，not 固定放 in order 和 to 中間。
