寫作文的時候，常常需要用到「換句話說」這個詞，將同一個概念以不同的單字、不同句子呈現出來，以免讓文章看起來太枯燥乏味，而且一直用一樣的單字會看起來單字量很少😂 （結果就不小心得很低分 😡😑）
又或者跟人對談時，對方不清楚你的意思，你就得用換個方式講，這時候就會用到「換句話說」這個詞，「換句話說」的英文到底該怎麼講呢？今天就一次教會你六種說法，一起往下看吧！
1. in other words
首先我們來介紹最常見的片語：in other words！這個片語應該很顯而易見吧，字面上就是「以其他字表達」，中文翻譯就可以翻成「換句話說、換言之」，可以放在句首或句中。來看幾個例子吧！
He has a date on Saturday. In other words, I don’t think he’ll attend your party.
他禮拜六有個約會。換句話說，我不覺得他會出席你的派對。So, in other words, you’re quitting this month?
所以，換句話說，你這個月就要辭職了？These documents are classified―in other words, only certain people can access them.
這些文件很機密——換句話說，只有特定人士才有辦法讀到這些文件。
2. to put it another way
第二個用法是 to put it another way。put 其實跟「放」無關，這裡的意思是「表達、表述、說」，所以就能推測出片語的意思是「以另一個方式表達、換句話說」囉！跟 in other words 算是同義字喔！
當你為了想讓某個東西更好理解，或別人聽不太懂你講的話時，你想要用另一個更簡單的方式解釋，就可以運用這個片語囉！
The last boat back to Taiwan has left; to put it another way, we’re stuck on this island.
回台灣的最後一班船已經開走了；換句話說，我們被困這座島上了。My feet are too big for the shoes. To put it another way, they’re too small.
我的腳對這雙鞋子來說太大了。換言之，這雙鞋太小了。He is a dreamer—or to put it another way, he has no head for business.
他是個夢想家－－或這麼說好了，他根本沒有生意頭腦。
3. to put it differently / put differently
put 一樣是「講述、說」的意思，後面的 differently 是副詞「不同地」，用來修飾動詞 put 。你可以用和第二個語結構類似的 to put it differently，也可以更簡單地說 put differently，都是「換句話說」的意思唷。
He never cares about others—or to put it differently, he’s self-centered.
他從來不在乎別人－－或者換句話說，他很以自我為中心。We’ve spent all of our money. Put differently, we are broke.
我們花光所有錢了。換句話說，我們破產了。
4. to put it simply / simply put / put simply
接下來這三個片語跟前面幾個稍為有點不同，看字面應該有發現出現了副詞 simply「簡單地」，所以意思就是「簡單來說」，也同樣帶有「換句話說」的意味，不過通常都會用來將提過的概念以更簡單的方式說明喔～
這三個片語可以互換喔，簡直一石三鳥 🤗 來看例子吧！
Put simply, the new product has to work, or we’ll go bankrupt.
簡而言之，這新產品一定要賣得好，不然我們就要破產了。Jennifer’s boss didn’t appreciate her performance. To put it simply, she was fired!
Jennifer 的老闆不滿意她的表現。簡單來說，她被炒了啦！Simply put, we have two choices right now—getting married or breaking up.
很簡單，我們現在有兩種選擇－－要嘛結婚，要嘛就分手。
5. that is to say
這個詞通常會翻譯成「也就是說」，可以用來補充說明先前提過的事情，加以闡述細節，或做更深入的說明，以將事情解釋地更清楚。也是一種「換句話說」的概念啦！
They—that is to say—Joey and John, were arguing about who should drive.
他們－－也就是 Joey 跟 John－－在爭論誰該開車。I’ll see you in a week, that is to say, next Monday.
我們一週後見喔，就是下禮拜一啦。We—that is to say, my husband and I—will be attending Alex’s housewarming party.
我們－－確切來說，我老公跟我－－會參加 Alex 的喬遷派對。
有沒有注意到，在這三句話中，that is to say 後面接的話都有讓前面的資訊更清楚喔！所以他不僅僅有「換句話說」的功用，還能讓資訊更清楚呢～😉
6. namely
看到這個字別被騙囉，它其實跟名字沒什麼關係捏🤡 這字的意思是「也就是說」，跟上一個片語一樣，也是用來讓先前提過的概念被闡述得更清楚，通常會給更多資訊，或講得更明確。
Only three students passed the test, namely Lisa, Sylvia, and Harry.
只有三個學生通過考試，也就是 Lisa、Sylvia 跟 Harry 這三個人。They brought some food, namely sandwiches, biscuits, and fruits, to the party,
他們帶了一些食物到派對上，也就是三明治、餅乾和水果。
