1. start 表示「開始、著手」
當 start 作為動詞時，最常見的意思便是開始做或著手進行某件事，後面可接名詞或動詞，以下例句為接名詞的範例。
I decided to start a travel blog.
我決定要開始寫旅行部落格。They’ll be starting the show at eight o’clock.
他們將在八點鐘開始這個展演。I just started a new job.
我才剛開始一個新工作。My friends were surprised that I started my working life as a YouTuber.
我的朋友們都對於我以當 YouTuber 作為工作職涯的開端而感到驚訝。
當 start 後面接動詞的時候，可以接不定詞 (to V.)。
I’m starting to get hungry.
我開始覺得餓了。She started to speak German.
她開始說德文。
start 後面也很常接動名詞 (Ving) 喔！
Don’t start getting paranoid.
不要開始在那裡發神經。What time do you start boarding?
什麼時間開始登機？
所以，其實接不定詞 (to V.) 或動名詞 (Ving) 只是長相不一樣，但意思上沒有區別喔！
Once I start eating cookies, I can’t stop.
= Once I start to eat cookies, I can’t stop.
一旦我開始吃餅乾，我就停不了了。
2. start 表示「出發、動身、啟程」
此時 start 代表從一個特定的地點、數量或情況啟程或開始，由一個點到另一個點，又或是以一個特定的方式發生。
We’ll start bicycling from Taipei to Pingtung soon.
我們很快就要啟程從台北騎單車到屏東。What time are we starting the day after tomorrow?
我們後天什麼時間出發？
3. start 表示「開動、啟動」
start 也可以指某個東西無法啟動或運作，一般指車子或機器等等。除了直接用 start 以外，也可以用 start up，意思是一樣的喔。🚗
I couldn’t get the engine started.
= I couldn’t get the engine started up.
我無法讓引擎發動。I didn’t know how to start her car.
I didn’t know how to start up her car.
我不知道要如何發動她的車子。
start 的名詞用法
除了動詞的用法之外，start 也很常以可數名詞的形式出現，最常見的意思為「開始、開端」。

My husband’s illness started with a high fever.

- start from 從…開始
Can you start from the beginning again?
你可以再重頭來一次嗎？The hike starts from here and will take you all the way to the peak of the mountain.
這趟健行會從這裡開始，一路引領你到山頂。
- start over 重新開始
I wish we could start over again.
我希望我們能夠重新開始。I decided to abandon the blog and start over.
我決定要放棄這個部落格並重新開始。
- start from scratch 從頭開始、白手起家
scratch 在這裡是名詞，指的是「起跑線」，這時候表面上是從起跑線開始，但其實可以聯想到它就是指從頭開始或白手起家的意思喔！
He failed and had to start from scratch.
他失敗了，必須從頭開始。We started from scratch to make a new plan.
我們從頭開始擬定了一個新計畫。
- start off 出發、動身、啟程
I’ll need to start off at 5 a.m. because I need to finish the journey within 35 days.
我得在清晨五點出發，因為我必須在三十五天內完成這趟旅程。They started off early in the morning.
他們早上很早就啟程了。
- start out 開始的狀態（與 start off 類似）
The teacher started out by introducing herself.
這位老師從介紹她自己開始。The day started out cold and dry.
這天的開始又冷又乾。
- start sth. up 啟動、開創
start-up 本身是一個複合字，很常會在企業相關的文章裡面出現，因為它指的就是剛起步的小企業，但其實它也可以當動詞，變成是啟動或開創某個東西的意思。
I can’t start the computer up until these updates finish installing.
在這些更新完成安裝前，我無法啟動這台電腦。Jack Dorsey started Twitter up in the United States in 2006.

- start at 自…起
這個片語很常用來表示價格或得以丈量的事物自某個數字起算，所以通常都跟錢有關喔！
Ticket prices start at NTD 500 and go up to NTD 2000.
票價從台幣五百元起，到最高台幣二千元都有。Hotel prices start at NTD 1000 for a single room.
旅館的單人房價格從台幣一千元起。
- get started 開始
要形容開始執行某件事或展開行動時，英文母語者很常會在口語中以 get started 帥氣表示喔！
