beside 和 besides 的意思
beside 和 besides 除了拼法不同，最大的差異就是意思和詞性啦！
beside 只能當介系詞，但有兩個意思👉「在⋯⋯旁邊」和「與⋯⋯相比」。
besides 能當介系詞或副詞，分別可以表示👉「除了⋯⋯」以及「而且」。
當然這兩個字的用法也相差甚遠，接下來搭配例句，讓我們好好了解這兩個字吧！
beside 當「在⋯⋯旁邊」的用法
beside 可以表示「在⋯⋯旁邊」，跟 next to 意思一樣，但 beside 比較正式，因此寫正式文章比較常會用到它。除此之外，beside 是介系詞，所以後面要接名詞喔！
There is a printer beside the computer.
電腦旁邊有一臺印表機。My cabin is right beside the big tree.
我的小木屋就在那棵大樹旁。Harry sat beside the campfire to keep himself warm.
Harry 坐在營火旁讓自己保持暖和。The man standing beside the host is the famous actor, Tom Hanks.
站在主持人旁邊的男士是知名演員湯姆．漢克。Peter screamed in terror when he saw a big cockroach beside his bed.
Peter 看到一隻大蟑螂在他的床旁邊時嚇得大叫。
beside 當「與⋯⋯相比」的用法
beside 也有「與⋯⋯相比」的意思，此時 beside 一樣是介系詞，所以它的後面也要接名詞。
My dog looks small beside the husky.
我的狗跟那隻哈士奇相比，看起來很小隻。This TV drama is boring beside the Big Bang Theory.
和《生活大爆炸》相比，這部電視劇很無趣。The novel written by Judy seems fascinating beside this one.
跟這本小說相比，Judy 寫的小說似乎非常有趣。Nancy’s voice sounds old beside her sister’s.
和她妹妹的聲音相比，Nancy 的聲音聽起來很老成。Your dish tastes delicious beside mine.
和我的餐點相比，你的餐點很好吃。
besides 當「除了⋯⋯」的用法
besides 表示「除了⋯⋯」時，是介系詞，所以後面一樣要接名詞或動名詞。
此時 besides 通常有包含提到的人事物，也就是「除了 A，還有 B⋯⋯」的加法概念，基本上跟 in addition to 的用法和意思差不多。
Besides Jazz, I like classical music.
除了爵士樂，我也喜歡古典音樂。Do you speak any other languages besides English?
除了英文，你還會說其他語言嗎？Besides Japan, Amy has been to Vietnam and Thailand.
除了日本，Amy 還去過越南和泰國。Besides doing yoga every day, Lucy plays volleyball twice a week.
除了每天做瑜珈，Lucy 每週會打排球兩次。Our grandparents gave us red envelopes besides making a big meal for us.
除了煮大餐給我們吃，我們的祖父母還給了我們紅包。
📝 小補充
besides 有時是不包含提及的人事物，跟 expect 意思類似。但這種用法有個大前提，那就是句中有否定的意思，像是包含 no、none、never、nothing 等字詞。不包含加上否定字詞，等於是負負得正，所以 besides 其實還是加法的概念喔！
None believes what Daniel said besides Tracy.
除了 Tracy，沒人相信 Daniel 說的話。
（= none + Tracy，只有 Tracy 相信 Daniel 說的話）Besides my boss, nobody worked overtime on Friday.
除了我老闆，沒有人在週五加班。
（= nobody + my boss，只有我老闆在週五加班）There is nothing in my new house besides a sofa.
除了一張沙發，我的新家裡沒有其他東西。
（= nothing + a sofa，我的新家裡只有一張沙發）
besides 當「而且」的用法
延續前面提到的加法概念，besides 表「而且」時，比較不會單獨出現，而是會搭配前文，讓 besides 引導出補充的理由或說明。此時 besides 是副詞，所以通常會放在句首，並加上逗號。
I’m too tired to go outside. Besides, it is raining heavily.
我太累到不想出門。而已，現在正在下大雨。Jessie decides to move to Pingtung because rents in Taipei are ridiculously high. Besides, she wants to live closer to beaches.
Jessie 決定搬去屏東，因為臺北的房租貴得離譜。而且，她想住在離海邊近一點的地方。David made a birthday cake for her girlfriend. Besides, he bought a watch for her.
David 做了生日蛋糕給他女友。而且，他還買了一只手錶送給她。There is no space for a treadmill in our house. Besides, it is too expensive.
我們家沒有空間可以放跑步機。而且，那太貴了。Mr. Lin is retired, so he has more time to spend with his family. Besides, he can go mountain climbing more frequently.
林先生退休了，所以他有更多時間跟他的家人相處。而且，他可以更常去爬山。
📝 小補充
besides 在這裡的用法跟 in addition、moreover、furthermore 差不多，但 besides 比較口語化，所以寫正式文章時要盡量避免使用喔！
