1. both A and B
both 用作對等連接詞（Conjunction）時，通常與 and 一起連接兩個字、片語或子句，形成 both A and B，也就是「兩者皆是；是 A 也是 B」，當中的 A 和 B 必需對等。
She wants to travel to both the Netherlands and Belgium next year.
她明年想去荷蘭和比利時旅行。I dislike both Danny and Sammy.
我不喜歡丹尼和薩米。He is both smart and handsome.
他又聰明又帥氣。
當 both A and B 作為主詞連接兩個名詞的時候，動詞必需為複數。
Both Canada and Argentina are far away from Taiwan.
加拿大和阿根廷都離台灣很遠。Both Jason and I like to go jogging every weekend.
傑森和我都喜歡每個週末去慢跑。
2. both + 複數名詞
both 可以用來單純修飾名詞，且必須是複數可數名詞。
Both children were born in Taipei.
兩個小朋友都在台北出生。Shops on both sides of the road are allowed to open in June.
這條路兩旁的商店被允許在六月開張。
3. both of 的用法
both of 在與名詞碰在一起時，應用上變化較多，可接所有格、定冠詞和指示代名詞再接名詞，以下分別舉例，相信你會更清楚如何正確使用喔！ 😉
both of 可接所有格（my/ your/ our/ their/ …）再接名詞，此時 of 可省略。
Both of my friends can speak Mandarin Chinese.
= Both my friends can speak Mandarin Chinese.
我的兩位朋友都會說中文。I’m driving both of your children home.
= I’m driving both your children home.
我正在開車戴你的兩個小孩回家。
both of 可接定冠詞（the）再接名詞，of 一樣可以省略，不過，省略後會出現 both 與複數名詞連用的情況，此時注意必須去掉定冠詞 the。
She is learning both languages. ⭕️
= She is learning both of the languages. ⭕️She is learning both the languages. ❌
她在學習兩種語言。I’ve been to both restaurants. ⭕️
= I’ve been to both of the restaurants. ⭕️I’ve been to both the restaurants. ❌
這兩間餐廳我都去過。
最後，both of 也可接複數的指示代名詞（these/ those）再加名詞，of 可選擇省略。
I’m going to buy both of these cars.
= I’m going to buy both these cars.
我準備好這兩台車都要買了。The room was warm, so she opened both of those windows.
= The room was warm, so she opened both those windows.
房間很溫暖，所以她打開了那兩扇窗戶。
4. both of + 複數代名詞
要注意的是，如果 both 後面接的是一個複數代名詞（them/ us/ you/ …），則一定要使用 of 隔開。
Both of them enjoy hiking. ⭕️

他們兩個都享受健行。My mom asked both of us to clean our rooms. ⭕️
My mom asked both us to clean our rooms. ❌
我媽媽要我們兩個都把自己的房間打掃打掃。
4. 代名詞（Pronoun）
both 當代名詞時，可以替代人或物，尤其是在對話雙方都明白指稱的對象或事物是什麼，或代替句子中先前提及的名詞，以避免同樣的名詞被重複使用的狀況下使用。
Applicants for this job must speak English or Spanish, preferably both.
申請這個工作的人一定得會說英語或西班牙語，最好是兩種語言都會。➡️ both 代替前面提到的 English 和 Spanish，避免重覆說明。
Both arrived at the airport on Friday
= Both Jenny and Jerry arrived at the airport on Friday.
他們雙方都在禮拜五抵達機場。➡️ 此處 both 代替人名 Jenny and Jerry，在對話者雙方都明白指稱的對象時可使用。
both 也可以放在主格和受格代名詞的後面，等同於「both of + 受格代名詞」的用法。強烈建議英文學習者要多練習以下幾個用法，並注意位置上的變化。
We both prefer pop music. ⭕️
= Both of us prefer pop music. ⭕️Both we prefer pop music. ❌
我們都偏好流行樂。➡️ both 放在主格 we 的後面。
I saw them both. ⭕️
= I saw both of them. ⭕️I saw both them. ❌
我看見他們兩個。➡️ both 放在受格 them 的後面。
當 be 動詞成為句子的主要動詞，both 同樣必須跟在動詞後面。
The watches are both quite expensive.
兩支手錶都滿貴的。Columbus and Ray Du are both popular KOLs.
哥倫布和阿滴都是熱門知識型網紅。😏
當助動詞（can/ may/ have to/ should/ must/ be able to/ ought to）出現在句中，both 的位置會介於主詞和主要動詞之間，在助動詞後面。
You should both meet each other halfway if you want to make up soon.
如果你們想和好的話，應該要各自退讓一點。My students would both apologize if they knew the truth.
倘若我的學生知道事實的話，他們都會道歉。
當 both 遇見一般動詞，它必須放在動詞前面。
We both want to get better grades.
我們都想考到更好的成績。They both like to make new friends.
他們都喜歡結交新朋友。
5. 注意：both 不可用於否定句中
這點是一個陷阱，其實 both 一般不應用在否定句裡，必須用 neither 來表示「兩者都不」。
Neither of them won the prize. ⭕️
Both of them didn’t win the prize. ❌
他們都沒有得獎。Neither of them is ready. ⭕️
Both of them aren’t ready. ❌
他們都還沒準備好。
同理，both…and… 也不該用於否定句中，應以 neither…nor… 表示「不是…也不是…」替代。
Neither my sister nor your brother is going to the party. ⭕️
Both my sister and your brother aren’t going to the party. ❌
我妹妹和你弟弟都不會去參加派對。

➡️ both 位於 be 動詞 is 後面，用 both… and… 的句型來連接 hungry 和 tired。
③ I want you to help me with this.
我想要你們兩個來幫忙我一下。
I want both of you to help me with this.
= I want you both to help me with this.➡️ 可將 both 放於受格代名詞後面，形成 you both，也等同 both of you。
④ My parents are going out tonight.
我的父母今晚都要出門。
Both my parents are going out tonight.
= My parents are both going out tonight.➡️ 此處 both 可作前置限定詞與所有格加名詞 my parents 連用，或是放在 be 動詞 are 後面。
⑤ Cindy went to Rome last year.
Sally went to Rome last year.
莎莉和莘蒂去年都去了羅馬。（請將兩句用 both … and… 合併）
Both Sally and Cindy went to Rome last year.
➡️表示「 A 和 B 皆是」需使用 both A and B 的用法。
