說到 end，大家都知道是「結束」的意思，而 end up 也跟結束有關，但會著重在結束後的狀態或結果，所以今天就是要來談 end up 後面可以放些什麼，各又代表什麼意思，那就話不多說，趕快看下去吧～
end up 的用法
end up 的中文意思為「最後處於…、結果是…、以…告終」，通常是指在沒有規劃或不在預期的狀況下所得到的結果。
以下就要來講解 end up 後面可以放什麼，主要會分成五大類，這次我會先展示各類用法及例句，最後再提供文法上的說明給需要的人唷～
1️⃣ end up + V-ing
首先，最常見的用法可以說是 end up + V-ing 囉：
The couple ended up getting divorced.
那對夫妻最後以離婚收場。The rain ended up stopping today.
結果雨今天停了。The restaurant was full, so we ended up ordering pizza.
那家餐廳客滿了，所以我們最後訂披薩吃。We ended up having a fight.
我們最後打了一架。
- 小聲補充：很多人會誤以為這個 V-ing 是動名詞，但其實它是現在分詞才對，功能是說明主詞的狀態，但不管怎樣，你知道後面要放 V-ing 就好 😆
2️⃣ end up + p.p.
end up + p.p. 是相對於上面 V-ing 的用法，當要表示「最終被…」的意思時，就會用動詞的第三態來表示被動，這個用法是多數人比較不熟悉的唷，它不像 V-ing 的用法那麼常見，其實有時候也會看到 end up + being + p.p. 的用法：
The criminal ended up shot by the police.
= The criminal ended up being shot by the police.
那個罪犯最後被警方給射殺了。The mayor ended up recalled by the citizens.
那位市長最後被市民給罷免了。The hero ended up forgotten by history.
那位英雄最終被歷史給遺忘了。
3️⃣ end up + adj.
end up 後面還可以直接加上形容詞，表示「最後變得…」，若要用 end up + being + adj. 也是可以的，例如：
The beggar ended up rich.
= The beggar ended up being rich.
那個乞丐最後變得很富有。If she continues to eat like that, she’ll end up sick.
如果她繼續這樣飲食，她終究會生病。The once-famous actor ended up homeless.
那位曾經紅極一時的演員最後落得無家可歸的下場。
4️⃣ end up + N
end up 後面放上名詞也沒問題，表示「最後成為…」，同樣地，要用 end up + being + N 也行，例如：
The beggar ended up a rich man.
= The beggar ended up being a rich man.
那個乞丐最後變成了富翁。He didn’t win in the first few rounds, but he ended up the winner.
他一開始幾輪並沒有獲勝，但他在最後成了贏家。I don’t want to end up a meme tomorrow.
我不想要最後變成明天的迷因。
5️⃣ end up + 介系詞片語
接下來這一類會有比較廣泛的樣子，不過它們的型態都會是「介系詞＋名詞」，像是 end up with…、end up in… 都屬於這類，會隨著介系詞不同而有不同的含義，以下舉一些常見的例子：
The performance ended up with my favorite song.
那場表演最後以我最愛的歌作結。You could end up with lung cancer if you keep smoking like that.
如果你繼續像那樣抽菸，你最後可能會得到肺癌。Tommy had planned to buy an OPPO phone but ended up with an iPhone.
Tommy 本來計畫要買 OPPO 的手機，但最後卻買了 iPhone。➡ end up with… 表示「以…來結束」
Winnie used the credit card incorrectly and ended up in debt.
Winnie 不當使用信用卡而使自己最後深陷債務。He didn’t take risks into consideration, so his business ended up in failure.
他並沒有把風險納入考量，所以最後創業失敗了。Don’t do that, or you’ll end up in big trouble.
別那麼做，不然你最終會惹上大麻煩。➡ end up in＋抽象名詞 可以用來表示「最後處於某個狀態」
Kevin traveled around Taiwan island and ended up in Kenting.
Kevin 在台灣環島，最後一站去了墾丁。I was going to the supermarket, but I ended up at my neighbor’s place.
我本來要去超市的，但最後卻跑到鄰居那了。The gift ended up in the trash can.
那個禮物最後進了垃圾桶。The politician ended up in prison for taking bribes.
那位政治人物因為收賄最後進了監獄。➡ end up + 地點 可以用來表示旅途或做某件事的最後一站，亦即「最終到達或落腳某處」
She had studied science for about twelve years, but ended up as a baker.
她研讀科學大約十二年，但最後成了一名烘焙師。Mike could end up as the next manager.
Mike 可能最後會成為下一任經理。➡ end up as… 表示「最終成為…、最終作為…」
Dylon is illiterate. He doesn’t want his children to end up like him.
Dylon 不識字，他不想要讓他的孩子最後跟他一樣。I don’t want to end up like Ashley.
我不想要最後像 Ashley 那樣。➡ end up like… 表示「最後像…」
👩🏫 end up 文法解析
接下來的文法解析可能對一些人來說會比較複雜，所以你可以依照需求選讀，看不懂不需要強求，這裡主要提供給想探究文法的朋友，但不管如何，切記最終目的是幫助你能在句子中正確地使用 end up 唷！
還記得在一開始有說 end up 的中文意思為「最後處於…、結果是…、以…告終」對吧，所以 end up 的後面會需要放個「…」來描述主詞是怎麼結束或是有什麼結果，這時候後面放的「…」就叫做「主詞補語」，而主詞補語就是上面介紹的那五種型態，會用來補充說明前面的主詞：
而這個用法其實就跟連綴動詞（linking verbs）的用法一樣，大家比較熟悉的應該是 be V. 和 become，下面會以 be V. 為例來示例主詞補語是怎麼樣補充說明主詞的：
The criminal was shot by the police.（過去分詞當主詞補語）
The beggar was rich.（形容詞當主詞補語）
He was the winner.（名詞當主詞補語）
The gift was in the trash can.（介系詞片語當主詞補語）
