其實呢，這兩句話都是對的 🙆♀️，不過 forget 搭配 to V. 或 V-ing 的意思會不同！以下解釋給你聽：
I forgot to send the email.
我忘了寄出那封電子郵件了。➡ forget 搭配不定詞 to V. 會表示「忘記要去做…」，也就是那件事在當下是還沒完成的
I forgot sending the email.
我忘記我已經把那封電子郵件寄出了。➡ forget 搭配動名詞 V-ing 會表示「忘記做過了…」，也就是那件事在過去已經做完了

1️⃣ 對於「忘記做過…」用 forget V-ing 其實不是母語者常用的表達方式，以上面的例句為例，比較自然的表達方式會是這樣唷：

Grandfather forgot that he had taken medicine this morning. 👍
Mom forgot that she had paid the electricity bill, so she paid the same bill twice. 👍
除非是像下列的句子，用 forget V-ing 才不會顯得太冗長：

首先，forget 表示「忘記、遺忘」，作為動詞，最單純的用法就是後面可以直接加上人事物。這裡也看看它的動詞三態是 forget / forgot / forgot 或 forgotten，加上 ing 會是 forgetting。

Gina was angry because her boyfriend forgot her birthday.
Gina 因為她男朋友忘了她的生日而感到很生氣。You had better note down the numbers before you forget.
你最好在忘記之前記下這些數字。Victoria wanted to forget her ex, but she couldn’t.
Victoria 想要忘掉她前男友，但她做不到。
此外，forget 還可以表示「忘了帶…」，但是後面不可以加上地點唷！

噢不，我忘記帶手機了。
補充一下，如果要表示「把…忘在某處、把…留在某處」，動詞必須要用 leave 才行唷，這是很多人會搞混的地方，要小心唷！

📌 forget about
forget 除了直接加上人事物，也有 forget about 的用法，意思一樣是表示「忘記、忘了」，例如：
I completely forgot about tomorrow’s math test.
我完全忘記明天的數學測驗了。I almost forgot about the book you had borrowed.
我差一點就要忘記你之前所借的那本書了。
📖 小補充
forge about 的句子有時候是可以直接用 forget 的，像是上方的兩個例句直接用 forget 也是沒問題的。
但若要仔細比較的話，forget about 會比較用在「對齁，我忘了！」的相關情境，例如忘了早上要開會、忘了吃藥。而單用 forget 會比較是腦袋中沒有那個記錄，像是忘記密碼、忘記對方的姓名。
📌 forget that 子句
再來，forget 後面可以加上 that 子句，而 that 是可以省略的唷，表示「忘記…、忘了…」：
I forgot (that) you won’t be home tomorrow.
我忘了你明天不會在家。We forgot (that) the restaurant doesn’t open on Mondays.

② 表示「算了、沒什麼」：

📌 forgive and forget
從字面上可以得知 forgive and forget 就是「原諒並遺忘」之意，類似中文成語中的「既往不咎、不計前嫌」，例如：
I knew you didn’t do it on purpose, so I decided to forgive and forget.
我知道你並不是故意這麼做的，所以我決定既往不咎。
📌 forget oneself
forget oneself 表示「忘我、失態」，通常是指情緒失控的狀態或是行為不得體，例如：
The couple forgot themselves and kissed wildly in public.
那對情侶很忘我地在公開場合大親特親。The woman was so angry that she forgot herself and shouted loudly.
那個女人太憤怒了，以致於她失態地在大吼大叫。
