講到「然而」的英文，相信大家第一個會想到的字就是 however，除此之外，nevertheless 也是一個常用的字喔，如果遇到作文要避免一直重複使用 however 的話，就可以用上 nevertheless 或 nonetheless，那就趕快來看看 nevertheless 的正確用法吧！
nevertheless 的用法
nevertheless 作為副詞，表示「然而、不過」，會用於轉折語氣。
要留意它的拼字是 ”never + the + less”，而發音是 /ˌnevɚðəˈles/，主重音在 ”less” 這裡唷，很多人會放錯或是將 less 前面的 e 漏拼了。
基本上，nevertheless 和 however 的用法差不多，可以放在句首、句中或句尾，不過 nevertheless 的語氣會比較強烈，且為比較正式的用字。
Henry and Monica loved each other deeply. Nevertheless, they didn’t get together in the end.
亨瑞和莫尼卡深愛著彼此，然而，他們最後並沒有在一起。Joseph finally got his dream job. He, nevertheless, didn’t feel delightful at all.
喬瑟夫終於得到他夢寐以求的工作了，然而，他卻一點都不感到開心。The mayor tried his best to govern the city. He still couldn’t win the heart of the citizens, nevertheless.
那個市長很盡心盡力地治理這個城市，然而，他還是無法贏得市民的心。
與 however 不同的是，nevertheless 很常會和 but 一起使用，加強轉折語氣。在此，nevertheless 的位置可以放在 but 之後或是句尾。
The math test was very simple, but Dennis failed nevertheless.
那個數學考試很簡單，但是丹尼斯還是考砸了。The project was very challenging, but interesting nevertheless.
那個專案非常有挑戰性，但是很有趣。The man is broke and ordinary, but nevertheless Nancy likes him very much.
那個男人又窮困又平凡，但是南西還是非常喜歡他。
nevertheless 和 nonetheless 一樣嗎？
通常你學 nevertheless 時也會一起學到 nonetheless，總體來說，這兩個字的意思和用法是差不多的，在絕大多數的句子裡可以互換，你查英英字典也會發現它們常被互相提及。
因此，如果你只是要用於一般的溝通及寫作，那麼你不需要特別去探討兩者的差異，因為連母語人士可能也解釋不出來它們的差別…（就是天生的語感 🤣）。所以重點就是，只要你學會了 nevertheless 的用法，基本上你就會用 nonetheless 啦。不過，實際上 nevertheless 會比較常被使用喔。

The scientist kept encountering something inexplicable. Nevertheless, he still didn’t believe the existence of ghosts.
那位科學家持續遇到一些無法解釋的事情，然而，他還是不相信鬼魂的存在。My dad teaches mathematics at a university; nevertheless, he has never taught me math at home.
我爸爸在一間大學教授數學，但是他從來沒有在家教過我數學。
The woman had a serious car accident. Nonetheless, she didn’t get any injury.
那個女人出了嚴重的車禍，不過她卻毫髮無傷。We paid a lot of money to the travel agency; nonetheless, we didn’t get the equivalent service.
我們付給旅行社很多的費用，但是卻沒有得到相對應的服務。
