Hello, everyone! 我是英文庫的 Celine 🙂，今天要來說說各個教育階段 (educational stages) 的英文～
如果你還在就學階段，在跟別人自我介紹時，可能會需要說自己正在就讀哪個年級，所以今天我們就來看看從幼兒園到研究所的英文要怎麼說吧！
首先，先來看看這個表格：

| 學前班／幼兒園* | preschool |
| 幼稚園 | kindergarten |
| 國小 | elementary school / primary school |
| 國中 | junior high school |
| 高中 | senior high school |
| 高職 | vocational high school |
| 大學 | university / college |
| 研究所（碩士班、博士班） | graduate school |
👆 以上的內容是以台灣的教育制度為主，每個國家的教育制度不同，所以名稱也會有所差異，下面的部分會適時補充不同的說法喔～往下看看吧！
preschool 學前班
有些小朋友在上幼稚園之前，也就是大概五歲前，會先去學前班/幼幼班/托兒所，讓他們開始適應團體生活。
字首 pre 為 before（之前）的意思，所以 preschool 就是學齡前兒童會去的學校。
The girl is studying in preschool.
那個女孩正在讀幼兒園。
📖 補充：現行台灣的教育制度已經把托兒所和幼稚園合併，合稱為「幼兒園」，這些機構在英文翻譯上會以「preschool」為主。
kindergarten 幼雉園
去讀幼稚園的小朋友年紀大約是 5 – 6 歲左右，也就是所謂的大班。
The boy is studying in kindergarten.
那個男孩正在讀幼稚園。
elementary school 國小
在台灣，就讀 elementary school 的小朋友大約是 7 – 13 歲，分成六個年級。
英式英文的小學則會用 primary school。elementary 和 primary 意思都是指基本的、基礎的。
- first grade 小學一年級
- second grade 小學二年級
- third grade 小學三年級
- fourth grade 小學四年級
- fifth grade 小學五年級
- sixth grade 小學六年級
junior high school 國中
國中和高中皆為中等教育階段，junior 的意思為層級較低的，相對地，senior 為層級較高的，所以 junior high 唸完才會去讀 senior high 囉。
而有些國家會把中等教育階段稱為 middle school 或是 secondary school。
- seventh grade 國中一年級（七年級）
- eighth grade 國中二年級（八年級）
- ninth grade 國中三年級（九年級）
senior high school 高中
- tenth grade 高中一年級（十年級）
- eleventh grade 高中二年級（十一年級）
- twelfth grade 高中三年級（十二年級）
📖 台灣現在採行的是十二年國教，從國小到高中共十二年級，所以直接用序數表達就能讓對方很容易理解在哪個就學階段喔。例如：
A: What grade are you in now?
A: 你現在在讀幾年級？B: I am in grade 2.
（最口語的說法）/
I am a second-grader.
I am a student in grade 2.
I am in the second grade. /
I am studying in the second grade. /
I am in my second year of elementary school.
B: 我現在就讀小學二年級。
如果是高中二年級，可以這麼說喔：
A: What grade are you in now?
A: 你現在在讀幾年級？B: I am in grade 11.
I am a eleventh-grader.
I am a student in grade 11.
I am in the eleventh grade. /
I am studying in the eleventh grade. /
I am in my second year of senior high school.
B: 我現在就讀高中二年級。
vocational high school 高職
vocation 為職業的意思，vocational 為其形容詞。
在台灣，高職一樣是念三年，所以一樣可以說 tenth grade、eleventh grade 跟 twelfth grade。
I am in my second year of vocational high school.
我現在就讀高職二年級。
university 大學
在台灣，大學名字主要都是採用 university 這個字，例如：台灣大學的英文為 National Taiwan University，簡稱 NTU。
college 也是大學，有些國家的學制對於 college 和 university 是有所區分的。另外，college 也可以當作學院，附屬在 university 底下。

大一生到大四生分別是：
- freshman 大一生
- sophomore 大二生
- junior 大三生
- senior 大四生
Jack is a sophomore at NTU.
Jack 是台灣大學的大二生。Jack is in his sophomore year.
Jack is in the second year of college/university.
Jack 現在大二。My brother will go to college/university next year.（＊go to college 較常用）
我弟弟明年要讀大學了。
如果是指大學在學生，可以用 undergraduate 這個字來表示：
Jack is an undergraduate at NTU.
Jack 是台大的在學生。
📖 補充：
1️⃣ 有的美國高中為四年制，所以他們也會用 freshman、sophomore、junior、senior 來分別表示高一生到高四生。
2️⃣ freshman 在口語還可以用 frosh 這個字，像是在大一迎新會 (orientation) 上。而英式說法則會用 fresher。
graduate school 研究所
graduate 為畢業生的意思，而 graduate school 為大學畢業後可就讀的學校，即為研究所，包含了碩士班及博士班。所以，graduate student 就是指研究生（碩士生或博士生）。
如果要說地明確一點，碩士生可以說 master’s student，博士生為 doctoral student，若念的是 PhD 學位，則可以稱為 PhD student。（PhD 全名為 Doctor of Philosophy，doctor 是博士的意思，但 PhD 並非單指哲學博士喔，而是泛指所有這個體制的博士生。）
看看例句示範吧：
I am a first year master’s student.
我正在念碩士班一年級／我是碩一學生。I am a first year graduate student in a master’s program in Philosophy.
我正在念哲學系碩士班一年級／我是哲學系碩一學生。I am studying for a master’s degree at NTU.（degree 可以省略）
我正在台大攻讀碩士學位。
I am a first year doctoral student.
I am a first year graduate student in a doctoral program.
我正在念博士班一年級／我是博一學生。I am a first year PhD student in Philosophy.
I am a first year graduate student in a PhD program in Philosophy.
我正在念哲學系博士班一年級／我是哲學系博一學生。I am studying for a PhD at NTU.
I am studying for a doctoral degree at NTU.（degree 可以省略）
我正在台大攻讀博士學位。
美國教育學制
台灣的教育體制有部分是參考美國，所以這裡也簡單分享一下美國的教育階段，但實際上會依照各州制度而有所不同，可以留意的是，美國學生入學年齡會比台灣早一年喔！
