line up
line 當動詞有「形成一排」之意，而 line up 就是「排隊」的意思，是 🇺🇸 美式英文最常見的說法。
要表示「為了…排隊」，可以用 line up for something 或 line up to V.，來看看例句：
What are those people lining up for?
那些人在排什麼啊？Please line up here to take the elevator.
請在這裡排隊搭電梯。Could you tell me where I can line up?
你可以告訴我要在哪裡排隊嗎？Line up to the right.
排隊請靠右。
line 也可以當名詞唷，中文意思是「隊伍」，所以 be/get/stand/wait in line、join the line 也能用來表示「排隊」，後面一樣可以搭配 for something 或 to V. 來表示目的。而「插隊」可以說 cut in line。
小提醒：這些用法除了 join the line ，其他的 line 直接用單數即可，不用加 a 或 the 唷。

（get in line 有進入隊伍中排隊的意思）We have been standing in line for the cake for more than one hour.

queue
queue 也能用來表示「排隊」，是 🇬🇧 英式英文的說法，發音為 /kjuː/，唸起來就跟字母 Q 一樣，所以你在英國或新加坡等國家可能會看到「Please Q here」的牌子唷。
queue 跟 line 一樣有動詞和名詞的用法，這裡先介紹動詞的部分。
queue 的過去式和過去分詞為 queued，字尾 -ing 的變化則用 queueing 或 queuing 都行。
要表示「為了…排隊」，可以說 queue (up) for something 或 queue (up) to V.。例如：
Many people queued outside the pharmacy to buy surgical masks.
很多人在藥局外面排隊要買口罩。Can we queue up indoors? It’s cold outside.
我們可以進室內排隊嗎？外面很冷。There is no need to queue. You can just get in.
不用排隊唷，你可以直接進去。It took me almost three hours to queue for the tickets.
我花了將近三小時排隊才拿到這些票。
queue 當名詞時，中文意思也是「隊伍」。表示排隊可以說 be/get/stand/wait in a queue 或 join the queue，插隊則為 jump the queue。留意一下，這裡用法與 line 不同，需要加上冠詞 a 或 the 才行唷，直接看例句吧：
Excuse me, are you in the queue for a taxi?
不好意思，你有在排隊等計程車嗎？How long have you been in the queue?
你們已經排隊排多久了啊？Please join the queue for tickets.
要買票的話，請加入這個隊伍。The people had an argument because the old lady wanted to jump the queue.
那些人起了爭執，因為那個老太太想插隊。Let’s go home. I don’t want to wait in a long queue.
我們回家吧，我不想排這麼長的隊。You may have to stand in a queue for two hours to get into the museum.
你們可能要排隊兩小時才有辦法進去博物館。
