一、and 前要不要逗點？
當 and 用於列舉三個以上的項目時，它的前面到底要不要加逗點，其實在英語世界是沒有標準答案的，各有擁護的派別。所以，你可以記得遵守基本原則就好：在同一篇文章裡，維持一致性即可，不要一下有加，一下不加。

▶️ 小補充：此時在 and 前面的逗點，稱為 oxford comma。
但是，如果不加逗點時，會出現不同解讀的可能性，那就要加才適合囉！別太擔心，這種例子滿少見的，比方說：
My favorite people are my brothers, the Pope, and Elon Musk.
我最喜歡的人是我的哥哥們、教宗，跟馬斯克。▶️ 加了逗點，會知道是在列舉。

我最喜歡的人是我的哥哥們，也就是教宗跟馬斯克。▶️ 沒加逗點，可能會誤以為 the Pope 跟 Elon Musk 是 my brothers 的同位語，變成他們兩位是我哥。
那如果 and 是用來連接不同的句子呢？一樣，加跟不加都可以，以清楚好讀為原則，通常加的情況會比較多。
那隻狗很可愛，很多人想領養他。

⚠️ 關於 and 的這個用法，提醒一下常見的錯誤：如果只是列舉兩個項目，是不需要逗點的喔！

他會彈鋼琴跟寫歌。
He plays the piano, and writes songs. ❌

二、and 的用法
剛才解決了逗點的問題，現在就來看 and 的常見用法吧。可別小看了這傢伙，雖然它才短短三個字母，但是就跟便利商店的店員一樣多才多藝，先來一睹為快，Ta-da！
- I like tea and coffee. 表示跟
- I finished the report and went out with friends. 表示然後
- Work smart, and you’ll finish the work soon. 表示結果
- The boy cried and cried, but no one helped him. 表示持續
- A: “I’m thinking about quitting my job.” B: “And what about your student loan?” 表示跟前句的關聯性
1. and 跟、和
▶️ I like tea and coffee.
我喜歡茶和咖啡。
這時候的 and 是大家最熟悉的，代表並列的感覺，傳達出跟、還有、而且的意思，用來連接單字、片語、句子都是可以的，例如：
I like tea, coffee, and juice.
我喜歡茶、咖啡和果汁。He plays the piano and writes songs.
他會彈鋼琴跟寫歌。You look for the key in the drawers, and I’ll check our bedroom.
你找找鑰匙是不是在抽屜裡，我去看臥房有沒有。
這個用法乍看很簡單，但同學其實會有一個常出現的錯誤，會在句子共用同樣的動詞時，在 and 的兩邊誤放上不同的形式。正確的用法應該是單字 and 單字、片語 and 片語、句子 and 句子，來看下面的例子對照吧。
I like tea and playing the piano. ❌
I like drinking tea and playing the piano. ⭕️
2. and 然後
▶️ I finished the report and went out with friends.
我寫完了報告，然後跟朋友出去。
這時候的 and 是代表先後順序，表示先做什麼，再做什麼，也就是中文的然後，來看其他例子。
She took a shower and went to bed.
她洗了澡，然後上床睡覺。He drove his girlfriend home and took another girl to the movies.
他載女友回家，然後帶另一個女孩去看電影（咦）💢。
3. and 結果
▶️ Work smart, and you’ll finish the work soon.
用聰明的方法做事，你就會很快搞定那項工作。
這時候的 and 是代表因果關係，表示前面那件事，導致後面的事情發生，傳達出結果、所以、於是的含義，來看其他例子。
The dog is cute, and a lot of people want to adopt him.
那隻狗很可愛，很多人想領養他。He has lied so many times, and they don’t believe him any more.
他已經說謊太多次，他們再也不相信他了。
4. and 持續
▶️ The boy cried and cried, but no one helped him.
那個男孩哭了又哭，卻沒人幫他。
這時候的 and 是表示重複、一直發生的意思，通常是銜接兩個動詞，或兩個形容詞。這種用法會比只用一個動詞或形容詞有增強語氣的感覺。
I tried and tried, but I didn’t succeed.
我試了，但沒有成功。
It’s getting darker and darker.
天色越來越暗。The prices of iPhones are getting higher and higher.
蘋果手機的價格越來越高。
5. and 跟前面的關聯
▶️ A: “I’m thinking about quitting my job.” B: “And what about your student loan?”
A:「我在考慮辭掉工作。」B: 「那你的學貸怎麼辦？」
這時候的 and 用來表示跟前面所說的話具關聯性，會出現在句首，多半用於對話，例如：
A: “I’ve been thinking about the problem for days.”
這個問題我已經想了好幾天。B: “And any solutions yet?”
那有想到什麼解決方案嗎？
A: “My favorite season is summer.”
我最喜歡的季節是夏天。B: “And mine is winter.”
而我最喜歡的是冬天。
6. 小補充：and/or 是什麼意思？
有時候我們會看到母語者使用 and/or 的說法（點入可聽發音，注意中間連音的部分喔👂)，比方說，咱們以產品故障，客戶能獲得什麼補償的情境為例：
If the product is broken, you will get a refund and/or a new one.
像上面的 get a refund and/or a new one，很多同學都會覺得這種用法長得怪怪的 🤨。其實，這個用法等於是想要一次表達三種可能性，包括 get a refund（只獲得退款）、 get a new one（只獲得新品）、get a refund＋a new one（同時獲得退款＋新品）。由於說話者不確定結果會是哪種，所以就都一起講出來。
